I've been recording/mixing for a couple of years but i think i've never had an honest opinion. Not too many people have heard this.. :(

Cool. Nice tune. Good recording in my ears but maybe a bit too crisp a sound if you know what i mean. It might be a bit high endy and that makes it too crisp, but i could also be wrong. Jus saying it as i hear it. Could be my shitty listening device.
At 4min 38sec the volume goes down. Were you trying to stop it peaking when bouncing it?
 
as a mix, i cant comment much as im not a master myself. as a song, this is as good if not better than much of the stuff in the charts at the moment.
take that as you like, but i really like this.
the lead guitar tone is really sweet and the song is catchy.
 
Sounds pretty good to me.

The Guitars are a little crispy but i can tell what you were going for. I bet if you did a cut on them in the 2-4Khz region (about 2 to 3.5 DBs) you would get a little more airy sound. It would make them a little more transparent and alow a little more room for vocals to come through. It would also let you get them a little more louder and add a little more spread to them, almost like they were rapped around the vocals. I dont really know if thats what you were going for with the vocals though.

Are the drums sampled (or drumagoged)? Sounds like the snare could use a little more punch in the lower end to me. The kick isnt cutting through very well in the higher frequencies. I think its because you have too many frequencies based around 2Khz. Sometimes it comes through pretty good but you have to search for it, and when things get heavy it gets buried and i think it should stick out there especially. Tom sound cool although they arnt what i would use. And that hi hat can be kinda distracting at times.

Do you have autotune going? Seems like its vibratoing the vocals a bit. Bass is low end, not much definiton, probably what you were going for.

Most of this is just my personal preference, i dont know what you were going for at all but i would have done things a little different. I think the main thing that bugs me is that everythings frequency seems centered around 2khz area.

It's a very catchy song. I love strong melodies. The whole mix seems to be a little thin, but I don't think it's a low end problem...I think it's more of a lack of midrange. I'm hearing a lot of autotune artifacts. Don't get pissed, lol...it takes a user to hear it :D - But I could swear I heard it on the lead guitar in a few places, as well as the vocals. I'm ALL about using Antares, but if you're not using it as an effect, it's best to avoid the artifacts. This would be a lot better with real drums, but we do what we can, eh?

Really nice tune.
 
good idea chris. I guess putting some warm mids back in there would help take out the heavyness in the 2k areas. I didnt notice the autotune on the solo guitar but i wasnt paying attention to it much because the tone sounded fine.

Thank you for all those ideas! This is exactly what i need.
I mix in cheap headphones and mabey thats one of the problems..
They lack hi-end frequenzies.. Ive had them for a couple of years now so im starting to get used to them.

How do you mix? Monitors or headphones? What are the advantages when mixing in monitors?

About what you said about the autotune. Mabey youre right.. Too much in the lead vocals.
I always have problems with the acustic guitar. I just cant get it to sound like the way i want it to sound.. Mabey thats my microphone.. I use an AKG C3000 (the first version) for vocals and acustic guitar. What mic do you guys prefer for acustic?

The AKG c3000 can explain over emphasized 2k area. Thats one reason why its important to have a different mic with a different color.

Sounds to me like you want an MXL 603 for acoustic guitar if your looking for low budget. There is a large selection of mix for that around here. Sounds like you wonna keep it bright and airy.

In a simple explanation, headphones dont give a true representation of how the sound sounds. It seems most of the time everything sounds pretty decent on headphones. What kind of headphones do you use?

Monitors can be the same way, especially if you have room problems. But in the end monitors will be better and easier learning how they translate.

I noticed the autotune mainly on the first parts of your notes because it does a weird vibrato thing. If you turn down the speed and the accuracy you might be able to get this a little less noticeable. Its finding it before your even at the note so it doesnt know where to bend to.

I've tried mixing in some low-budget monitors, but i had a hard time hearing the room in them.. So eather way I think i like headphones more..

My headphones are extremly low-budget but i have compared them to phones that are much more expensive. And mine kicks ass! They cost me about 70sek ($7)!!! They are called "Sonoko HP-80"

If your gonna mix on headphones at least get ones that are for the purpose. I like AKG K240s. Others like the Sony models better. Ask around for other advice on that.

the thing should define them as "kick ass" is how flat they are, rather than how much more noticiable things are. If something is noticible in one phone vs another, thats a dead indication they have a lift in a particular range of frequencies. The reason that good mixing headphones are good is because they are flat amongst other things (they dont amplify certain frequencies).

Well these have a pretty flat curve.. they have a low cut av about 50hz and frequenzies above 12khz are slightly cut. other than that theres not much to complain about. But of course! Im gonna buy a new par as soon as i can..
I was thinking about the Sony MDR-CD3000 Digital reference headphones..
