How do these drums sound?

Hard to say without hearing it in the mix.

Balance seems a little off. The kick sounds really big but the rest of the kit sounds thin and distant. The snare and that tom in the right channel sounds thin.

Did you EQ stuff?

Wrd,

Danny

Sounds ok, kick sounds nice, but as dan said it's really hard to see just how well it works without hearing it in a mix.

Toms sound too loosely tu ned to me, but that's a matter of taste, as well as dictated by given songs and such.

Just a thought here... The toms were panned so that you imagine yourself behind the kit rather than in front of it. Of course that could be wrong if the drummer is a lefty. Other than that I thought it was pretty good balance of all the elements and the tone was cool too. That comment on tuning the toms... you could or you could not; they sound good (to me) the way you've got them.

Yeah, hard to really know what will happened when the band joins in. But on their own, they sound quite nice. I think the the low tom sounds great, the higher tom is not happenin' though. Again, that could all change when the rest of the band joins in. As for the the panning, I almost always pan the drums as if I were sitting behind the kit. If I don't, it screws everything up when I play "air drums"!

I'll always pan the drums from the drummer's perspective. I think it makes the listener feel more included.

I've since beefed up the snare and cut down on some of the attack a little bit. I'll try to back down on the hi hat.

I'll post another clip later.

Everybody, thanks for input.

The cymbals are pretty spacial so those would probably sound pretty decent in the mix. The kick might be fighting will your bass guitar, depending how that was recorded. The mix seems a little left heavy because of the hats, but its pretty hard to say much more unless you hear it in the mix. But the tones are interesting.

I also like to pan from the drummers perspective. Since I can drum fairly well for a non-drummer, I really like to hear it that way. My feeling is that it's nice for anyone familiar with a drumset to hear it, and anyone that's not wont care one way or the other.
