Hooking up a Compressor

I was thinking about buying a mackie onyx satellite interface, to record vocals, i was wondering if i would be able to hook up a compressor and if yes how? because it is a firewire interface i was wondering if i would still need to use my m -audio soundcard with it? any help would be appreciated

No you won’t need an additional soundcard.

To compress sources on the way in you just add the compressor at the channel insert. If you want to use the compressor at mixdown then that’s quite a bit more complicated and depends on how both your recording software and the interface handles signal routing.
