I had no luck getting either version to work on my system. The error message I got was:
Wave device already in use.
I can load pre-recorded .wav files, but they won't play inside n-track. And I'm not willing to reformat and reload the O/S.
I generally don't slam my truck door closed with my fingers in the jamb just to pass the time. Maybe that analogy was exaggerated but it's the way I <feel> about the process.

Soooo....n-Track. Yep. Pretty cool stuff.

Either this software is so good that nobody's having any problems...or the messageboard at fasoft is taking care of everyone...or nobody's using n-Track.

Just trying to keep this board alive.

Anyone having trouble with the new beta? It crashed the hell out of my machine running 98, prompting me to install NT4. I haven't noticed too many problems with it since then. I'm using FAT32 drivers for NT so that it can read FAT32 partitions. Real handy for dual booting between NT and 98/95. Got NT on a 1GB partition and 98 on a 9GB partition...and of course my music is also on the 9GB partition. I didn't install ANYTHING in NT except n-Track and my DX effects. n-Track seems to run much smoother now...of course that could be due to the new version which uses a multithreaded interface to make it a bit more responsive...I hope it doesn't take away from recording efficiency though.

Anyway...

I've had great success with n-Track, and I think that the problems I was having with it were due to having too much junk loaded in 98. I don't have a standalone machine for recording so I use one machine for everything.

I've been meaning to dual boot for some time now to improve my recording performance. Over a three month period I installed a lot of multimedia applications as well as internet applications. It shouldn't make a difference in a perfect world, but towards the end there I was getting real piss poor performance. The inability to run the latest n-Track just pushed me over the edge. I have absolutely no problems now that I'm running it from a clean system.

A Wave Device Already Open error typically means, as you probably know, that another application is currently using the wave device. There could be several reasons for this depending on the software you're running. Could be a proprietary mixer for your soundcard... When you first run n-Track you have to setup your wave input device and your wave output device. It will default to WAVE MAPPER but you'll want to change it to your soundcard's in and out. For instance, I set mine to "SB16 Wave Out" and "SB16 Wave In". I have had problems with other settings.

Slackmaster2K,
I'll be getting my new computer system pretty soon and they'll be installing windows 98 on the 10G drive. They wanted another $100 for NT so I said no. I can get a copy of NT 4.0 somewhere else, so I was wondering about doing things the way you did, with NT and n-tracks on one partition, and 98 and everything else on the other. I'm getting another 20G drive as well, hope it works out OK. I've never done this type of thing (partitioning) before, or installed two OS's into one drive.
Would I need software like partition magic or something else to do this, or can I do this in NT when I am installing it into the new computer that has windows 98 on it already?
I have been reading the NT manual at....work, and glimpsed at a section that was maybe saying that you can partition the drive when installing NT. I may have read it wrong though.
Glad to hear your system is working good!
Thanks
