I did a session this past weekend that had a few nightmarish mic issues. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here's what happened.:

I was recording an acoustic guitar with a Rode NT1 and a Shure BG 4.1 In the past, bith mics have given me stellar results.

This time however, the Shure had almost NO signal even with phantom power on and the gain cranked to 11. The Rode was good and hot. I thought it could be phasing, so I summed each one to mono, muted the Rode, re-placed them all to no avail. Did my Shure crap out or did the battery die? I figure if the battery died, than the phantom power should've carried it.

Also, It was the first time I'd used the Rode in a different room. At home, it sounds fantastic, but in my pal's studio, it was boxy and extremely mid-rangey sounding (awful) I had to EQ the crap out of it to make it usable. Could this be due to the fact that I use a Presonus Blue Tube preamp at home and I used the console's preamp in the studio? I knew the blue tube was good, but I didn't think it'd make THAT big a difference. The console is a big Tascam 8-bus modular console, with tons of bells and whistles (model # escapes me) and stunning clarity. It's just that this one time my mics sucked. Maybe I had the suck know turned up by mistake.

The thing that perturbs me the most is that we tried all kinds of stuff to fix the problem close miking, distance miking, X,Y, A, B configs. mid sides, moving around the room, listening for the sweet spot etc, and the raw signal still sounded crappy.

Any ideas on what I should do next? We're booked for another session for next weekend and I'd like to be better prepared.

Thanks in advance.
