Hey everyone,

I'm currently looking for a capo I've seen before. It looks like a normal capo except smaller because it only presses down 3 or 4 strings.

I'm dying for one of these capos cos I'd love to try it out for some alternate tunings. I've searched online, but I'm not too sure what it's called or where to find it. Any help please?

You can also make one yourself with a normal capo, I have a friend that did that. Those capos in the link look pretty nice though...

I just made myself one out of a regular Kyser capo, using just an X-acto knife, a hack saw, and a metal file. Took me less than 10 minutes.

I modified a girl that way once. I still have part of her in the freezer.

it looks pretty cool, but does it work well?

I have one. Dinked around with it for a while, and it's a neat novelty, but I never got creative enough to actually write a full song using it or really do anything particularly useful with it. Still, it's fun to mess with.

Is it worth my time to buy one though?
It doesn't look like it holds the strings down too well...

And if all fails..................

You can also use TWO capos on one guitar  Yes tell me I am stonecrazy or whatever...............but think about it, you could capo your low E and A [or even retune to whatever and capo that] and then you could use a capo a bit further on the fretboard just holding down the other 4 strings.

If you already have a capo you could just capo the four strings and use open low E and A. Okay I know it is different from partial capoing, but it will give you some kind of idea, and really, it is all up to your imagination and your inventivness in creating different kind of tunings and find musical applications for them.

Do I do this a lot? Well no, but it is nice that one can when you need to [and at some stage you always will need whatever is possible].

So start experimenting right now and enjoy!

I've got one. I like it. One of the neat things about it is that you can be in an "open" tuning but all of the fretted notes will be in standard. Chris Proctor uses one a lot.

You can also use a standard Kyser capo, but flip it upside down, putting the short end on the fretboard and the long end on the back of the neck. Not the greatest pressure on the lower strings, but it will work in a pinch...

It's called a cut capo. I play Worship & Praise in a church. It's VERY common in this kind of music. This website has info and you can buy 'em...

The one's they sell are made by Kyser. As someone mentioned earlier...you can use it in tendem with a regular capo as well.

The website above has some good instructional stuff on how to use it.

Basically it covers the A D & G strings.

Very cool.

I'd say it's worth the time - or money - for that matter. They actually have two elastic bands that wrap around the neck, with two buckle holes in each, so you can adjust the tension pretty well. Also, the rubber buttons that hold down the strings adjust along the thing so you can use it anywhere along the fretboard. It's a pretty cool thing - I just never spent enough time with it probably.
