Newbie here...I hope someone will help me on this. Just bought a mic and it has three switches:

I understand the polar pattern switch.

I need help on the following:

what is and when do I use the low cut filter?

what is and when do I use the 10dB attenuation pad?

The mic I bought is a Nady SCM 1000.

With the cardioid and figure 8 patterns, you'll get extra bass boost when you get closer to the mic. Use the low cut switch to roll off the bottom end to compensate for that boost.

what is and when do I use the 10dB attenuation pad?

The pad lowers the output of the mic by 10 dB. Use the pad when recording very loud instruments if you're still getting clipping even with the mic gain turned all the way down.

The mic I bought is a Nady SCM 1000.
