Help me bring my VS840 back to life

I got a VS840 for free a few years ago because the zip drive had stoped working and the origianl owner had stoped using it. I figured I would replace the drive and have a great new piece of gear for free. Not exactly. First problem is that when I turn it on it says "Setup ERROR/Err CODE: -32746" Once I hit Enter/Tap though, it reinitializes and works fine. I guess it's not really a problem as much as a confusion and an annoyance. The real problem is this: I bought a new zip drive, installed it, and was given some old zips by a friend. I fired up the 840 and inserted the zip. The drive engaged, seemed to read the disk and all seemed well, that is, until I tried to record. Then a window pops up and says "No Disk." I'm 99% I installed the drive correctly and that the drive is working. I'm less sure about the disk being formatted correctly or working in the first place, but it should be. Anyways If anyone has any tips, the help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

-Peter

Did you set the little plastic jumper plug on the back of the drive to master? - they usually ship set to slave.

Is this an original 840 with 100MB zip drive or a later one - EX or GX that have 250MB drives?

Thanks for the help. It's a 100 Mb model. I just looked at the drive and you're right, it is set to slave, but I never got the plastic jumper to set it to master, do you know where I could get one? I'll look around and see if I can find one. Thanks again for the help!

You can take one off the old zip drive, or any old drive you can find.
Though if you say it's set to slave then there already is a jumper - pull it off and plug it on the master position.

No, unfortunately the way this particular model ships is with no jumper for slave. Even in the diagram label on the drive it shows no jumper for slave. It's strange though since the diagram on the iomega website shows slave as having the jumper in the middle position. I even called them and they said that the older models had no jumper for slave, and they don't sell the jumpers seperatly. I think I'm going to try my luck at the local Radioshack...

Thanks for the help, it was the jumper. I found them as Radioshack!
