I am what I would call green. I play acoustic guitar and sing as well. I am trying to figure out a few things. First, what would be a good low end/cost microphone to record both my acoustic guitar and my vocals at the same time? Second, what is the best way to go from a XLR microphone into my computers sound card? Adapters? What options are there? Lastly, any advice really appreciated. Thanks :)

not to be sarcastic, but I started recording voice and acoustic guitars with my PC mic. The voice sounded like shit, of course, but the guitar actually sounded pretty ok with a little reverb added in softwares. This would cost you nothing but some cheap software to get a feel of pc recording.

and the next step up, I will leave to others...but, I really had a good time with just a pc mic :)

You will need a mic preamp, and if you are going to sing and play guit at the same time you will need two mics, IMO. The best super inexpensive setup I can think of is the following:

Preamp = M-Audio Audiobuddy = $80 (dual mic pre)

Mic 1 = Marshall MXL 603s (SD for guitar) = $80
Mic 2 = Studio Projects B1 (LD for vocals) = $80
