How do these sound direct into a mixing desk for low volume practice and recording in an apartment in the middle of the night when waking the neighbours is NOT an option? (worrying about making too much noise in an apartment inhibits style and creativity... Maybe have a house in the forest when I move back home to Aust, but for now, home and studio is a Tokyo apartment while I have work here)
-Mesa Boogie Triaxis?
-Mesa Boogie rectum recording preamp?
-CAE SE+3? (no recording direct out???)
-VHT GP3 Valvulator (even has balanced XLR out.. so far so good. I tried out a VHT Valvulator GP3 in a shop yesterday, and it sounded BEAUTIFUL through this overpriced almost $20,000 rig on the display floor - http://www.musicland.co.jp/shibuya/caj/ But how is the GP3 going to sound when I plug it directly into my mixer at home instead? The shop didn't give me that option to try...
-Anything by Soldano or Engl Or Bogner?
-Anything NOT by Marshal?
-Anything else at all that sounds FANTASTIC, and not too noisy for recording? want to record subtle lines with crystal clarity, then one day when I am famous and touring, take it in the rig on the road and still sound just as good using it with a power amp and speakers in a live rig as it does in the studio DI'd into the desk
My gear that will be used with this preamp:
- Mackie 1604 VLZ-pro mixer
- Lexicon MPX-550 reverb/delay
- dbx 1066 compressor/limiter/gate
- M-Audio Firewire 1814 Audio interface - may later become full fledged pro-tools setup.
- My old faithful Schecter tele that is almost perfect through a good rig (apparently same model as Eddie Vedder's favourite guitar, but I had mine longer than him!!! Just checked... I DID have mine first! he copied ME! haha...he knows a nice guitar when he plays it...)
Price may not necessarily be a hindrance, if I can find perfection... I am looking for a top class piece of gear to keep with me for the rest of my life.
