O.K. quick Question about recording some
guitars in my small home studio. Because noise
and the neighbors are a problem....I'm thinking of
using a good guitar pre-amp DI'd direct into the machine
and a Rat Guitar Pedal for distortion.

Like this:
Guitar->Rat Pedal->Pre-Amp-> Digital Recorder

However, I've never worked with guitars much. And I
ran into the problem of a lot of noise from the pedal.
Too much 'hiss' once the distortion was turned on. too
much hum, etc.

I'm using a M-Audio Buddy 2 channel Pre-Amp.

Any thoughts?

What is your budget...there are guitar preamps from $0 to $2,000.
What type of music?

Distortion pedal is always going to be noise. What about putting a noise gate b4 the pre-amp or use a distortion plug-in. Or live with the noise between plying and edit it out later. That’s just stomp boxes it’s not the pre-amp (unless you are driving that as well.
