Funny, I had a marshall that was used and it blew up too. Me nor my father could find anyone who was able to fix this problem without a big price tag - one so big, you might as well call it "totaled"

. I bought another one for $200 used - there's a story behind how I got such a great deal on it-. It's in near mint condition but it doesn't seem to go as loud as it should. I was using a Peavey Rockmaster Preamp (GREAT preamp, similar to 5150 sound > bought it $50 used at a music store known as "Daddy's Junky Music"). The 9005 was real brutal, but wasnt loud enough. Here's something that I observed. My 50w Plexi on volume 2 (With bridged inputs) is twice as loud as the 9005 power amp half way open. Lol? I didn't think that was right at all. Come to think of it, the transformers in the 9005 are rather dinky....they compared to the size of an old 60 watt solid state crate transformer that was bought by my uncle for use of the giant housing for another amp chasis.
I just purchased
a Peavey Classic 50/50 all tube poweramp. 8 EL84's, 2 12at7's (inverters), and 212ax7's (preamp). They go for around $300 on eBay. It's noticably louder than the 9005, and you get more of that hot tube overdrive once you begin to crank it. If you like that hot power tube gain (similar to EL34's - or E34L's), then a 100 watt power amp loaded with 8 EL84's is, in my opinion, the way to go.
The Peavey Classic 50/50 looks sweet too!
