I have a Takamine electro-acoustic with its own battery powered pre-amp. I have connected the guitar to my PCs SiS 7018 Sound Card.

I am using the correct mono to stereo adapter to connect the guitar.

I have tried it with both the microphone input and line input (unmuted) but still no sound came from my speakers.

I then tried connecting it using my amps preamp output but still nothing. The guitar plays fine when connected just to the amp.

When i connect up a standard PC mic to the soundcard it works fine.

you need to find your 'mixer' applet (if windows, check control panel) for your SiS and check the levels for line in ... don't use the mic input. If you have no signal that's most likely the problem; using the line in though I'd suspect you would need to use the pre-amp to get sufficient level.

I assume what you mean by mixer applet is when you double click the speaker icon?

I have tried it with the Line In volumn at max for both Volumn control and Recording Control but still no sound. My preamp gain is also up to the last.

Any other ideas.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried any other instruments into the soundcard?

I would plug in a mic or bass or something just to see what happens.

Ya I'v plugged in a standard PC Mic and it works fine

Check this, if you haven't already:

You may have to tell Windows where your input is.

Go to Accessories-Entertainment-Sound Recorder-Edit-Audio Properties-Sound Recording-Volume will give you the "Recording Control" menu to tell Windows what you want to do. I seem to remember picking "What U Hear"

Hope that works.
