first off thanks to all for helping me narrow it down to the mp2nv.
my question is how do you like yours? how about on kick and snare. i would just like to hear about the ups and downs of this mic pre before i go and sink 2k into one.
Hey man, I still say the Pheonix Audio GTQ2 considering everything you had mention before... BUT, I also know you certainly won't be disappointed in the MP2NV what-so-ever... I'll leave comments about it on kick and snare to someone who actually ones one.
Hi there,
I recently recieved mine from mercenary about 3 weeks ago and I highly recommend Fletcher. Hell, the other day I had a question about how to get the best sound with my u195 in conjuction with the loading, impedance and gain levels for my acoustic and voice. Within two days he replied and went straight to Dan @ greatriver who gave me his recommended settings! Hows that for service?
Anyways, Im finding that at this moment, the great river really opened up my u195 in the higher frequencies. I've made a recording of a song I'm working on, where the first mixdown was used without the mp-2nv and the second was re-recorded with it. You can immediately hear a better seperation of the instruments and yet, they still fit together nicely. Overall, the sound of the song is more "punchy" for lack of a better word. I can post both if you'd like for a small comparision.
As far as the mp2nv goes, it absolutely kills for bass direct...you can get a nice fat growl on a jazz bass. Furthermore, the pre sounds very versatile and can go from clean to more colored. In conjunction with the impedance and loading you can get more air or a flatter response if needed. I'm still in the experimentation stage but I have noticed that its definitely not a dark or seriously colored pre. I'm thinking that a good ribbon mic might be in order for a "darker" sound that rounds off the high end that I can't stand when using a daw. Let me know if you wanna here a comparision
