Does anyone know where I can go to get Roland GR-33 patch settings.

I would love to imput great sounds that others have created. Must admit I'm new to the GR-33 and find creating professional sounds that actually sound good very difficult to do.

I know I'm being lazy but need to get to work now and simply don't have unlimited time to "trial and error" research.

Would appreciate if anyone knows of a forum, group or person I could exchange ideas with.

Thanks,
Neil

No One?

I'm surprised no one has responded. I've decided after several days of working with the GR-33 it's not an issue of being lazy -- it simply makes sense to share great sounds with each other.

Does anyone own a GR-33 out there????

hey, I've got one...but found making the patches wasn't really the hard thing to do. You just scroll thru the sounds, and pick what you want...and you can basically only layer one sound on top of it. Then adjust your parameters, balance, effects, and such until you like what you hear. There are some good ideas however, such as taking a piano sound, and layering another piano sound on top of it...an octave up. Using the transpose can help to get some more unique kinda sounds. I haven't gotten into split patches or transposing other than octaves at this point. I find making a "lead" patch...adjust it...then find a subtle "backing" patch to add to it, seems to work best. Like combining two bass sounds...strings with the voices... not to mention using the MIDI and plugging into another synth.

If you find a source for ideas/patches...I'd be interested too.

Yeh

I agree with what you said, it is a fairly simple procedure to pick a sound and layer it or change it's effects.

I know however there are very bright audio genius's who have already come up with new exciting sounds -- you may be one of them. I'd like to see a group of us pool our resource time on this issue and share what we've done so we're not reinventing the wheel, so-to-speak.

If we created a format we could simply upload a few of the settings to each other.

Whatcha think??

Neil

I am not positive that this is exactly what you wanted but it would be a great place to start.

http://vg-8.com/

This is a site some guy set up by himself or so I gathered. It is a site on the VG-8 obviously, but there may be some related links to the GR-33 as the units are similar.

Do you like the unit? I am tempted to get one. I saw it first a few years ago and fell in love with it, but it was very pricey at the time. However it has tumbled in price since I last saw it.

Hope it helps!!!

Cheers Alan

and let me ask [stupidly]...how would we upload patches??

Alan...I'll answer for Neil...I love the GR-33, and I think you would too.

Love it!

I have to second MIXMKR. I love the GR-33. It really is easy to use once you understand the settings. Ya know it also helps to read the manual <wink>

I'm using mine to record to Cubase via Tascam US-428 digital mixer. Although the MIDI leaves a bit to desired (at least for me the MIDI seems to not hit the correct notes, at times) I do like, very much, the range and control for sounds in recording. I don't play live anymore but others I've heard love this unit for live play.

To answer MIXMKR -- we wouldn't be uploading patches per say we (or I) could create a table that lists the settings under COMMON / TONE / EFFECTS. It should be as simple as just putting an X in the box for the active setting (or something like that.)

Again, WHATCA think??

I'm all for it. maybe when this weekend comes up, I'll get some time and see what I come up with.

I got it early!!!!

Wow! having a great time recording tin whistle on a few tracks.

Here's a link for users, that I found after going through Bizcad's link

http://www.gr-30.com./

I'll go along with mixmkr "it helps to read the manual". After a couple of hours with no sounds atall, I was forced to do it.

Also to answer mixmkr you can up load patches as described in Chapter 5/ settings/saving patches from the GR-33 to sequencers or other MIDI Devices (Bulk Dump).

In this section they describe how to send system settings or Patches out through an external MIDI device. My understanding is that you put it into a file on your computer (if you have a MIDI port on your computer) or maybe save it to a floppy on a sequencer then transfer it into your computer and then just attach it to an email and bing bang boom, you can send it to someone else who has some way to connect to the GR-33. (A MIDI/USB Midiman is my next purchase) (It never ends!)

Anyways Hope it helps!!!

Cheers Alan

Such a blast!

Congrates on your new toy. Must say I'm still enjoying the fun. The GR-33 site is great. I believe is answers my need. I'm looking forward, when I have some extra time, to uploading and downloading patches.

Lets us GR-33 groupies keep in touch.

Neil

I agree

Just post any news on this thread and check out the users email server at that post that I mentioned above.

I started getting posts from it today. Don't quite understand all the lingo yet, but I am going to set up a mail rule in Outlook express that will shunt all the emails to a folder so I can read them at my leasure. I just learned how to use the mail rules and it's great!

Have Fun
Al

Too Bad

One drawback to the GR-30 site. If I read the webmasters explanation correctly these patches cannot be downloaded to the GR-33.

My question would be can we print out the main parts and transfer the important data the controls we want. My guess is yes. We'll see.

Nchapman, you said you use the GR-33 to record to cubase. Is it really as simple as connecting the midiout of the GR-33 to the midi in of the soundcard? If so, does the software (cubase or whatever) use the sounds in the GR-33 or does it only input midi notes and then uses midi sounds you have on your computer?? hope this makes sense...i'm kind of confused with all this.
Cheers
