Picked up a used Yamaha SE1220. It is a single piece neck design, 22 frets, duel humbuckers, floating bridge. Has 2 volume, 1 tone, a 3 way pu select, and a 2 way switch that I have absolutely no idea what it does.

The neck is thin, but not razor thin, and a little more narrow than my old washburn. Plays and feel great. The action is a bit higher than what I expected. Don't know if I can go lower cause I am getting a little fret buzz at frets 3+, not much at all though and really only heard when sliding up or down.

It sounds great. More of adarker sound, but can get very bright with a turn of the tone knob and a flip of the unknown switch. I have some EMG's on the way, 81 and an 85. I plan to pick up another one of these when I can find one, maybe a S-S-H configuration, and put some cleaner pups in.

Took me a few hours to learn how to tune it correctly. The PO had disconnected one of the 3 bridge tension springs. I put it back on, did a rough tune, adjusted the bridge tension so the bridge was slightly below neutral, then did a final tune. Once tuned and locked, it has stayed there. I hope it stays in tune well.

Overall I am please. Paid $350 for it and $200 for the pups. Plan on replacing some of the hardware later on cause I don't like the gold color. Will get it custom painted sometime too.

Oh yeah. All the tips I had read on how to tune a floating bridge didn't help hehe. They all basically said to tune low E, then A, then recheck/retune E, etc. I found that by tuning low E, then high E, then A, then B, rechecking/retuning as I go along, it works much better.

What do you guys think?

No one says to tune a floyd rose low E to A to D and so on, everyone knows you gotta go low e, high e, a, b, d, g, or a similar alternating pattern.

I've got an old piece of Charvel with a licensed Floyd, and I always tune it from the outside in - E, E, A, B, D, G.

No....everyone knows you need to get rid of those evil tremolo bridges and go hardtail! :D :D :D

got a pic? Floyd Rose, a better bridge? What's floating, all trems or just that one? How about my Strat?
