I'm saving to buy some affordable mics. As a drummer I need mics to record my kit but I also work in some projects with my bandmates, so I have to be ready for micing bass, guitars, and vocals.

This is what I looking for:

1 SM 57
1 AT 25 PRO
2 ECM 8000

What do you think.......???? I think those mics are good for drums. But I´m not so sure about his performance with other instruments.

All in all the set will do a good job for you, but you may rethink the ECM8000s because of availability, and If the room isnt perfect they will exploit the faults. a pair of Mxl 603s will cost more but will eliminate the room for the most part.

I have a good room apparently because I've used both for overheads, and if spaced far enough apart the 8000's will give you decent stereo imaging. The 603's I find to be a bit more versatile, though. I've used them on acoustic guitar and prefer them to 8000's for that. If your budget is really tight the 8000's are about half as expensive as the 603's. I bought all of them thru www.8thstreet.com

with the 57, the pro25, a pair of ecm8000's and maybe even a pair of 603's, there wont be a whole lot you cant do.....

what is your total budget.....if its low, skip the 8000's and go with the 603's......

For real bottom-line , I'd try to go with the 603's, being somewhat more versatile than the 8000's. Add about 2 more SM57's if you're tracking a lot of drums. Get a Marshall V67 for vocals. If you're tracking just electric guitar, the 57 should be fine. If acoustic, I'd add one ECM8000 to the pair of 603's. One of each is very good on acoustic. I do believe that you would benefit from a dedicated vocal mic, and I don't think the AT or the 57 is the best you can do.-Richie

Thanks for all your comments....

Hmmmm, those MXL603 are damn good, as far I can see. My budget is about 250, and need to save more to buy a new soundcard ECHO MIA I think. Does anybody knows where I can find best prices??.

Check 8th street for the 603's (a pair w/ cables $160) For the V67B (black- don't pay extra for the green one), I think it's Sam Ash. Or check 8th street or Macmidimusic for Studio Projects B1- also a perfectly good vocal condenser. Best of luck- Richie

Use the pricing that you find at the other stores while ordering, and get one of them to match the price, you will save on shipping that way.
