Im making a list of things to rememeber for tomorrow studio time, just recording drums.

So far i've got, remember water, and get samples of every part of the kit, take tape, and coins to tape to beaters.

Kits going in tonight to let the new skins acclimatize.

Anyone think of everything else?

My canned response:

PRACTICE - I can’t emphasis this one enough. Honestly, I don’t mind if you come in unprepared, but in the interest of saving you money, I recommend you really know your songs

METRONOME - Have your drummer (AT LEAST) practice with a metronome or a click track. This is merely a recommendation, but it makes life so much smoother.

Make sure your gear is in good working order - again, really doesn’t bother me, but to save you a bunch of money...

REST! - this is a double entendre as the group (vocalist especially) needs to be well rested. This doesn’t mean don’t practice, it just means don’t get yourself trashed the night before. In addition, I feel Miles Davis put it best: “Don't play what's there, play what's not there.”

Don’t drink - I have no real problem with alcohol, drinking, or even drinking during/prior to/after the recording. I say this because alcohol (usually adversely) effects your voice and your patience. This one is totally up to you.

Come alone - don’t have a posse or a girlfriend or anything like that. Sitting in on a session when you’re not doing anything and have little attachment to the project doesn’t help. No one needs their own Yoko...

This is generally what I send people when they're going to be recording with me. Basically, if you're doing drums, make sure your hardware is all in order, specifically the heads, cymbals, cowbell, pedals, etc is working. Have extra sticks. That's pretty much everything I can think of.

Cheers guys, the skins have just been changed, we've got 2 brand new sets of sticks, and although we haven't practised to a metronome (our songs are up and down tempo wise deliberatly) my drummer is pretty solid.

Do you know exactly what you want to play and record so that you don't waste any time?

Yep. Exactly. We had a last minute rehersal last night, my drummer only made one mistake that meant we'd have had to have done the song again, had we been recording. Everything else was spot on first go.

Make sure none of the hardware squeaks/rattles! especially your kick pedal and hih-hat pedal!
