Anybody ever heard of the GI100 Ultra-G® DI Box made by BEHringer? Well I just bought it today for only 30.00$ downtown, its really nice. It simulates a 4x12 cab and i guess you can use it for basses also (so it says in the manual).
Well anyway its a good way to not have to mic your amp if it has an output. But it really does make the same sound as a 4x12 cab. Its suppose to be used at gigs and stuff so you dont have to mic your amp, and it just makes it so you can run it through the PA system. But i decied to try for recording since it was on 30.00$ and it sounds good.
Soooo i just though i should tell you people this just in case you wanted more of a Distinked sound. You should try it because you might like it and its only 30.00$ so yeah...

How are you connecting the GI100 - with the speaker output from the amp, or the line output?
Does the cab sim really make it sound okay to record direct? i.e. does it remove that "too thick, too close, no air, fizzy and boomy" sound that occurs when you try to record direct?

Does it sound as good (or close to) using a real mic on a speaker? Or is it more of a "good enough sound to do a quick recording" thing?

One live advantage to these is that if you connect before the stage amp, you can make amp adjustments without affecting house mix. That can be a real plus sometimes.

I have one of these and have used it for direct recording of clean electric guitars and bass guitar (you can listen here: http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=4301&alid=-1, the bass and the electric guitar in the right speaker were sent through the GI-100). Not a bad toy for $30. I can't say that it accurately reproduces a cabinet, but it does add a little something to the sound so it doesn't sound quite so "direct."

Considering my skill level after 20 years of "dabbling" in guitar and bass, I could use any piece of gear that "destinks" my sound. ;-)

Definitely - I used to do that all the time ;)

Just don't talk to the thread starter like he's with us ... cos this is some kind of zany timewarp.
