gettibng no bass frecuencies from a SM 58

Now, I'm about to record voices with an SM 58. Tghe thing is that I'm getting just the mid high frecuencies but not the bass ones. If someone out there has nay suggestions, please, don't let me record this way....

How close are you to the mic when you sing? You will get more lows if you get closer to it I think.

The 58 has a slightly higher roll-off point than a 57 but should still have enough low-end for vocals. If you record lots of low bass in your vocal your going to have big problems come mix time. If your not getting any bass out of your 58 it's either a connection problem or the mic is toast. What are you plugging it in with/to?

in general unless you are really belting it out, you want to be 6 or less inches away from the mic, that way you get proximity effect. Or if you don't/can't do it that way you can always turn up the low frequencies on your mixer but that wont sound as good

Most engineers start cutting the bass around there anyway. The closer you get the 58 the more bass you will get. If for some reason you really need bass in the vocals then a condensor will give you more then enough.

Why do you need vocals to have that much bass?

Your probably getting the freq wrong as 300Hz isnt the bass region.

Basicly if all is working with your mic and placement is correct (and your not singing a mile away from the mic...) then what Tex said is correct although cuting from 300Hz is a bit extreme.....
more like 150 and under....

As a general statement, for vocals, I tend to boost around 3-4 hundred with medium Q quite often. And I find I do different things between 150Hz down to 80Hz... Boost or cut (with a shelving or peak/dip) or nothing at all... All depends.

I agree, I find the low-end response (150-80 Hz) of an SM58 simply "not enough" for vocals that I try to avoid using them for that as much as possible. And that's why I don't own one. I don't find this problem at all with the Beta58.

It is my voice what I'm recording. Well, the thing is that I listened again and it seems that high frecuencies are not so audible either. It is near-telephone sound. It isn't clear (of course I'm singin close to the mic.) and lacks of presence...
