Threshold?
Does the threshold correspond to the input meter? ie - if I don't see the input meter peaking above -7db and set the threshold to -6db, will no compression occur?

Also, I wish the compressor didn't have a built in gain - it makes it harder to evaluate how its affecting the sound since every time you engage it you get a big amplitude jump.

p.s. - i posted this within another thread, but wasn't getting any responses.

On you're first question, I think that's right but I'm not sure.

On the second, this means of compression will necessarily increase the gain because it's bringing up the volume of everything below in order to "compress" what's on top. So you need the gain control to reduce the gain. Also, I'd need to check this to be sure, but I think that there's a setting somewhere that will automatically adjust the gain to the input volume level.

hmmm ...

I thought the approach was usualy to reduce the gain on top of the threshold rather than increase the gain below. I guess it amounts to the same though. If you find out where that control is, let me know.

Mix with your ears and not the meters. My subjective tests show the metering to be off by as much as 1-2 dB.
But you can hear any artifacts even with your eyes closed so trust them instead.
If I may rant for a moment, don't get looked into technical formulae.Don't always compress the same way or EQ in patterns.Less is more unless you dig a highly processed sound.

Tom, I noticed the other day that Tom Hicks from Texas is the majority owner of the Texas Rangers. Slumming?

Maybe i can use my id to get in his owners box!
