EQing Guitar

Can anybody give me some good general EQ tips for recording? What frequencies do I want to EQ up, and what frequenceis should I roll off of to get a good solid rock, heavey sound...like rhythm guitar sounds from bands like STP and the like. I've read a bunch of books, but still...just can't get the same sound they do...I know they have billion dollar studios, but that can't be the only answer.

The most important part of getting a great guitar sound happens before the mic. Get that right and you should not really have to EQ at all exept for maybe a little cutting in the low end to avoid conflict with the bass.

Thanks Ronin...this has turned into quiet the discussion in the Recording Technique section...I've been posting over there, and figured I'd get a better response there so I posted there...live and learn
