I met a guy that bought a Ephiphone les paul jr. to learn to play and never did.
So the guitar is mint.
Played golf with him the other day, now he wants to trade me the guitar for a putter I have. The putter would sell for maybe $75 or maybe $90 on ebay. Just checked prices on the guitar on ebay, so price wise It may be a good trade.

I really have never looked at one of these. I don't want to sound like a snob but own a Taylor, and Goodall acoustics. and a american standard strat, and a P-bass I use in my home studio. I record the strat almost always through a Blues Jr. amp--- Never really looked at or played the Epi-Les paul Jr. or considered it, but now my curiosity is up.

So Here is my question, is it worth the trade? Would it produce useable tones? or is it more of a begginners toy that will not tune or intonate? I will go by a store later this week and check one out but know I can get some expert observations here!!

My ex girlfriends son has one. seems to have a pretty finish. never heard it, tho. he still seems to like the peavey predator i got him to learn on. hope its not a piece of shit. I did not know about this site when I got it for him and I don't know jack about them guitar thangs, just puters.

Actually, I don't feel THAT strongly about it. Riccol mentioned-

which made me think that HE would probably find it unusable. As an entry level guitar, it might be perfect. Not too much cash for someone ready to dabble in a hobby they're unsure about.

I'd go for it, especially if you aren't using the putter. If nothing else, it would make a fun project to upgrade.

yeah if you aren't using the putter,i would go for it. I wonder if they are on par with the quality of a squire strat? if so, then it would be usable. Lets be honesty, its nothing compared to your american strat but might be cool just to have around. I would use it more than a putter.

Yeah. And if it doesn't work out as a guitar you could always use it as a putter. :p

hey.... now you are talking....

i'd buy a guitar putter... if it golfed.

I have one of those to and it is MUCH better than the LP jr.

Why did you buy it?
I didn't have someone with my infinite wisdom advising me.

ya the squire strats really aren't that bad for the price. they are excellent guitars to learn on as they don't require much of a financial commitment in case things don't pan out. That's unfortunate that epiphone can't put out an equivalent. I love LP's much more than strats, just my style i guess. i have a gibson Les Paul and a Fender American Deluxe strat. They both rock but if i had my choice i would play the Gibson. The gibson Les Paul and an ephipone junior are two different animals though

My sentiments exactly!

As usual, I disagree

I have an Epi Jr., and I love it! I also have a couple of Squire strats, and the Epi is built better than either one of them. Just borrow it and try it out on your Blues Jr., which, BTW, I would think would make an excellent combo. As far as being a good deal, no, mine was only about 90 or 100 buck new, so your not getting a great price. If all you have now is a single coil strat, get it just to have something different.

It seems pretty simple to me. Try it. If you like it, get it. If not, don't.

I'd trade, I don't play golf so I wouldn't have much use for a putter any way. BTW new Epis don't seem to have the same feel an the old ones, I recently sold an Epi Les Paul Special, it looked great, sounded good, had good action... but the neck just felt wrong, like it belonged on a different guitar.

Well for what it's worth I made the trade ---
The thing gets a cheap, nasty, sound through my little blues jr that cracks me up, and yes it is obvioulsy cheap, but I have to say I love it for that reason!
The plywood resonates delightfully crappy!
Did a few tracks with it and the cheap, nasty, sound was just what I wanted.
I have tried in the past with all kinds of effects and techniques to get that cheap old sound on more expensive guitars, the answer was get a cheap piece of dookey guitar!

It's sho- got MOJO!!!!

It's a keeper!

ha nice.
you are a sucker for punishment. I'm the same, that's why i break out the squire strat one in a while.
