What is emulated line out and balanced line out? I want to run my guitar directly into the PA at shows instead of micing it.

Right now I have a Boss peddle, one output into my amp so I can hear myself then the other into a Line6 POD, from the pod into a direct box, from the direct box into the PA.

The sound guy told me I shouldnt do from the pod right into the snake because the POD will only do that with high impedence cords.. the direct box converts it to low impedence.

Im currently using a Crate amp which really doesnt have any kind of line out but I keep seeing Marshall and Line6 with emulated... but I was told to look for balanced.

Emulated and balanced line out are 2 different things. Balanced is when there is an XLR output. Emulated is when they give you a line out with a cabinet simulator.
@ questions for you
1. If you have a pod, why are you bothering with the pedal?
2. Why don't you want to mic the amp?

I had my peddle before I had the POD. I tried recording with the peddle but realized it sounds like ass because its not going through an amp. I simply use the clean channel on the POD as a preamp. It doesnt come with any kind of footswitch so its useless to me otherwise.

Im not micing my amp because the sound never suits my liking, not like direct into the pa atleast. Its clearer and less feedback if I go direct.
