I am about to purchase an EMU-1212 pcie card. I just read the pdf manual and the only thing that might convince me not to buy it is the Patch Mix DSP Mixer included with it. It just seems like one of those bright ideas they throw at you and you end up stuck in Unexplain-a-Land

My question, for anyone using an emu card, can this included mixer be bypassed. I have my own hardware mixer and my DAW has one too. I would really not want to be forced to deal with a 3rd one.

The only control I would want to get involved with for this card is the sound level.

No, unfortunately, it cannot be bypassed. It is what routes the audio to and from your ASIO channels. I have the 0404 pci card and EMU's patchmix software really kind of sucks because it is not very intuitive and the manual isn't an easy read.

However, once you get it figured out, you just leave it alone and do all your work in your DAW and it will be good. I only use mine for spdif and midi anymore. I rarely have to open the app.

BTW: I deleted your other post. Please post your question only once. Thanks.

I like the specs on that card so i think i will take the plunge ...eventually these thing get figured out. Thanks for the quick reply Chili.

Thanks for deleting the double post ...i wasn't aware it duplicated itself.

Hey, you cannot bypass the mixer, but once you set it to nominal (inputs and outputs) you never really have to look at it again. It will just sit in your system tray as a small icon.

I do NOT use any of the onboard effects or anything on the card, it is just to pass audio as you plan to.

Be warned, the initial set up on the card is a bear and you will spend some serious time swearing about that mixer, but the forum help on the EMU board is really good. The guys there did a great job getting me up and running and I have really never messed with that mixer again except for opening it to see if my inputs or outputs were getting levels in cases where I had a bad cable or something.

I think you will be happy with the card.

Do you have a url for that forum page? I am cursing my DSP right now and need help!
