Has anyone tried a Duncan Designed Detonator Humbucking Pickup?? Its on a guitar im thinking of buying but im not sure what Kind of sound im going to get and how good a "Duncan Designed" Pickup would be....

Any chance of trying the guitar out in the shop (assuming it's from a shop) with a few different amps, or even better drag your gear down to the shop and plug it in and crank away?
That's one way of knowing what type of sound you will get!
Of course the sound you will get will depend on a number of factors, ie type of amp, speakers, effects etc that you may use.

Duncan (Seymour) make a very reputable pickup. Over the years I have used Duncan Invaders and Duncan Distortions in my guitars and have never had any problems. :)
Seymour Duncan is one of the great Pioneers in pickup design, I may need to be corrected here and will stand corrected but I believe Seymour Duncan to be one of the forerunners in pickup design, in particular the Humbucking pickup.

I've got a Samick SG with Duncan designed humbuckers on it, imo the pickups are the best thing about it. Enough said!

From http://blogcritics.org/archives/2002/09/25/101206.php,"A short history of electric guitars":

"The next breakthrough was the work of Seth Lover and Walter Fuller who created the humbucking pickup in 1954. (It grew out of the needs of Radio broadcast and recording where, as to this day, quieter is better.) Gibson's ES 135 was the first to sport this innovation and entered into regular production on Les Paul guitars in late 1957. Early humbuckers have entered the mythology stamped with the now famous "patent applied for" phrase. The design of these pickups is exactly the same as is produced today."

Well no shops by me carry the guitar so I was going to buy it off a website..... The website doesn't have reviews on it soo I was wondering if anyone here have tried one......

Out of curiosity, what type of guitar is this Duncan Designed Detonator pickup in?

Are you going to be able to at least have a play on this guitar before buying. There are so many personal factors that come into the equation when buying guitars, or any instruments. The old adage "Try before you buy" would definately apply here.

Perhaps you could do a search for some facts and reviews on the pickup eg: Seymour Duncan Pickups, sorry I haven't got a link for you.
I think I would pay more (if not equal) attention to the guitar, you can always change pickups out.
