I am considering buying a mic "package" for drum applications for my home studio. I am very leary of 6 mic packages for $200-$300. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? I have two 57s that I can can use on snare. The 2 packages that I am considering are the Nady 7 pc. and the CAD package. Are these mics total crap or can I get a good sound with them. Any help is appreciated!!

dont even consider buying the nady. do yourself better :p

the cad ive heard and have heard people use them. they were ok. But it would be alot cheaper to just save up for more.

Get a d112 or a beta52 (i both use these)
and you alreayd have 2 sm57s so thats good.
Get overheads MXL 603...which are cheap

In my opinion, just stay away from Nady, period. CAD will offer quality to fit the budget; you should get something workable from CAD in that price range. Just keep your expectations realistic. I have a set of ATs that do pretty well given the price - about $175 on ebay - but the kick mic is a bit dull. It makes a better bass cab mic.

So consider upping the money a bit - get an Audix D6 kick drum mic if you can swing it and make up the rest with an economy set for now. The D6 is a killer mic for $200.

There's an Audix set for $400 - http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/270642/

Absolutely!!! you don't want to spend that money and then be unhappy with your mics...Audix makes great mic!

A few really good mics can do a lot better than a bunch of really crappy ones. I'm gonna second systmovadown's idea. You've got the 57s and you can always upgrade and get some more 57s for toms later. Bass drum can go either way, I prefer the beta-52, but either work just depending on style. the 603s are good, I have a set, I might consider saving some extra money and grabbing a pair of AKG C-1000s instead just cause they are going for 300 a pair on musicians friend, And I strongly agree with there sound. But yes I'd stay stick with simple yet good, don't get pulled into some stupid package cause its cheap, but offers unnecessary and bad mics.

Just my opinion.

i've got some budget drum mics and some decent ones... i try not to even look at the budget ones anymore... the sound from some decent mics is far better...
as the forum has recommended.. i'd pick up a d-112 or beta52 (i use a beta), keep the 57, on snare and maybe split the toms with the other, and pick up a pair of sdc's to X-Y the whole kit ( i use mxl 993- theyre not so bad, much brighter then my old shure 849 -= theyll make due until i can afford some oktavas, or peluso)

you can get the mxl's new for $170 ?
and i got my beta 52 used for $120...

so spend another $290 and youll have a decent 4-mic drum setup..
