Hi, I want to record my bass directly to my computer, but the sound is awfull, I've heard this is because the bass signal is unbalanced. A direct box solves this problem? or should I buy a device like protools or m-audio?

thanks!!!

A direct box will take a high impedance, unbalanced output (from your bass) and provide a low impedance balanced output. This may or may not help your sound. With guitars and basses I like to use at least a preamp before hitting the input of the recorder.

The most common way to record direct bass is:

bass>DI>mic pre> computer or tape machine.

The di will convert your instrument level signal to mic level.
