ok i'm the lead guitarist in a band, there is another rthym guitarist he goes for the lows i'm more midrange, i go direct out of a marshall....he goes direct out of a randall. i use a stompbox distortion in front of my marshall...the other guy uses his amp distortion....this is the dillemma..... the other guys distortion sounds extremely squashed and has a majorly bad hiss....i was thinking that maybe the problem was with his signal is that he is using on amp distortion which messes the signal...could this be the problem?

the amp distortion should sound better than the stomp box.........he probably has too much low end in his guitar amp.

The problem is you guys are recording direct. Mic the cabs and it will usually sound a lot better.

I agree with Tex.

You would be suprised <or maybe not> how much direct in changes the sounds you worked so hard for coming out of the amp and cab.
