What do you say??. Does anybody have some experience using OH of two different brands???.
I got one MXL mic and I´m very impressed with what I´ve read of the B1, so.....that´s why I´m thinking of it. The question is: B1 is a good OH??.
Another option is buying a matched pair or 1 mxl603s and use with my mxl990, Harvey talked about his similarity. Besides the 990 works great for my purposes and it´s my first condensor mic so what can I say.....

Some opinions would be interesting

I've used dissimilar overheads on and off for years... sometimes it adds to the size and dimension of the drum sound you're able to capture... sometimes it does indeed sound lopsided.

Give it a shot and determine whether or not it works for the application at hand... but frankly, there are absolutely no rules in recording... so do what you think sounds good at the time, and learn from your mistakes when/if you find you have a difficult time controlling the audio down the road.

Best of luck.

It might sound strange if the patterns aren't similar.

From what I can tell, the 603 has a fairly wide cardiod pattern, while the B1 might be a little tighter.

Just a thought, but you don't know untill you try it, obviously.
