hey everyone
i have a lot of questions about the details of mic's since i don't have much experience with them, but just to get the RIGHT idea, i thought i would post this question: what is the REAL difference in dynamic and condenser mic's? if you could keep it basic for my ignorant mind, i would really appreciate it! ;) lol
and a follow up question would be are there differences between CONDENSERS in sensitivity to outside noises and stuff. i'm recording in my bedroom and i can isolate the people in my house, but not cars coming up the road and that. i'm leaning toward a dynamic and getting a good pre amp....but anyways, i'm talking too much again. thanks for your time!

Read this:

Sticky: How does diaphragm size/polar pattern relate to mic applications?

It is the first (or second) thread you'll see in this forum.

If you tell us what musical applications you're planning to use a
microphone for, you'll receive more accurate specific info.

A condenser will pick up more detail than a dynamic microphone,
whereas a dynamic will tend to minimize room ambience or noise.

It's a worthwhile learning experience to at least get
one of each type to try firsthand, so you'll understand how they're
different. Then you can pick which one for a given task more
effectively.

There are tons of great information at www.studiocovers.com on
recording related topics like this, and are pretty "basic" BTW.

Get this book, "The Home Studio Guide to Microphones" by Loren Alldrin. It has all you need to know and more.
