dazed and confused..help figuring out stuff

hi all...1st timer here....i figure everyone gets asked this question but please help me if u can...i was wonder about having a computer build 4 recording but i am unsure of alot of things..like what motherboard should i get and chipset ..p3,,p4,,. and sound card ..what kind of memory should i get sdram or ddr etc.. plus what goes with what and what doesen't ..what about extra slots to upgraad with..should i get firewire and usb2..i have cakewalk home studio 9 and i have never used it because i have an old computer...or should i just save money and get a mac..im so confused on what to do any help would b gr8 thxs

thxs 4 the reply and the welcome...my budget is to spend as little as possible but still achive a product that sounds professional...if that makes since..i would like to get a computer to use as mixdown for around 1000.00...or should i save my money and get a mac with pro tools? or use cubase..or stick with my home studio 9 from cakewalk...im still confused...ty spinsterwun

wow....if you have the choice of picking pc or mac and you're up for having either...thats really a personal choice. $1k for a comp is pretty good I think. especially if you can reuse certain items in the pc you already have: monitor, mouse, keyboard, mousepad. thats about 250-300 in savings right there. now if you have up to date memory and a fast large hard drive...I'd use those too.

ty 4 the reply distortedrumble,,,i will use monitor and other things from my old computer but i need someone to start throwing me a bone or two..like what motherboard ,hard drives , etc..that would work together..also how many firewire and usb ports i should have and any extra slots and things i might need incase of upgrade...etc...thxs again
