Here is my latest mix on this song. This is after adding a bass track. I'm trying for a defined but not overly loud bass line. Can you take a listen and let me know how you think it sounds. The song is called Come Let Me Love You and here is the link to the song page:

I think you've got it on the bass line. I'm listening through phones, and I can make out all of the notes just fine, yet it's not too overwhelming. Guitar tone is very nice, maybe bump the solo up a tad. Vocals are just right.

I have just a few personal preference items that I feel may add to the overall vibe to the song...Are you using real drums for this? While mixed well, I almost feel like the drums could use a fair dose of overall reverb or something to give them some ambience...also, the kick is a bit punchy and might could come down just a bit.

Nice job.

Very nice Gerry. Bass is coming through loud and clear. Balance is great.

Drums are a bit dry, especially the snare.

Actually, it sounds great. Killer tune too. Tasty lead. Pretty cool all the way around. I think I'd go with a fade on the though. Just a thought.

The bass sounds great. Nice growl to it. I think it may be a hair too loud in the mix though. It could come down a touch and still be present but subtle. Just my 2 cents. I remember this song. Pretty kick ass bluesy rock song. :)

Bass sounds fine man...I can easily make it out. Have you tried compressing the whole mix a bit, to see what happens?

Cool tune man.

Boo Radley (Brad) - Thanks! It's good to hear the level on the bass is okay - I've been working on a few mixes to this point. I have noted your suggestions for next time - reverb to the drums and lower the kick....

David - Thanks for listening! Another thumbs up on the bass is a good sign...got your/Brad's note on the drums....

Track Rat - Thank you also... I usually write an ending so the song can be played live (some day :D) Fades are cool too though - sometimes I'll use them on endings that crash and burn  I've a few recordings like that.....

Greg_L - Thanks man....Yeah Mike is a great bass player and has a "big" sound to his bass. This mix is my attempt at pleasing the bass players out there (Mike especially of course) while keeping the levels in check. I can try a db down maybe to see if it stays defined.....

Dogman - Thank you for listening! I compressed the mixdown using my outboard multiband compressor. Is there anything in particular that seems to jump up and down or is it the whole mix? I guess I could try and process further with my Sound Forge software ITB.

:D:):D:)

Another great tune. The rhythm/lead kinda chord riffs are great. Has a very Clapton vibe to it, could be the vocals that give me that impression. You seem to have got the bass just right if you want it to carry the tune. Great stuff!

Ido,
Nice job on the bass. Sounds spot on with h/phones & just a tiny bit low on my speakers - but then again no - relistening - good growly bass - a little like LPC preferred bass flavour.
EXCELLENT song & the guitars are ACE.
So when did that major label say they were picking this up?

I like this song.
Bass, guitar, vocal OK. Drums suck badly.
kipsus - Thanks for taking the time to check it out. It would be great if you can be more specific on what you don't like about the drums - tone/beat/mix/pattern/ etc....

Telepaul - thanks CSNY guy - not sure if I want the bass to "carry" the tune, but I do want it noticeable...

Ray - Thanks Sir! - Would love to get a few coins from a label and retire in relative comfort in the Bahamas....;)

Tone. Those drums sound extremely synthetic. Consider using a good sound library or even recording a real drumset.

Yep - they're fake drums right off a midi file. I hope to move on to EZDrummer or something like that. Just takes some dollars - maybe in a few months...:D

Sounds great to me Ido.

Very Cream like tones.

I like it!

Kick up the solo volume a bit and let er rip!

Nice one man. I'm a real big fan of your voice. The drums do sound pretty patterned but to me they don't really stand out enough to be a distraction or anything. I personally think the guitar solo at around 2:05 could come up a bit/stand out more. Guitars sound good. Bass is real driving. I saw you mention ezdrummer which I just purchased recently. I'm not sure if theres a demo or what the word is on the boards here but i'm a pretty big fan in only a few days of messing with it. I've used it to program drum beats and hooked it up to a triggered kit and have had a blast with it. Great song man. Only nitpick is the guitar solo.

Take care

Gary

Mixed very well. Everything is very balanced to me. The performance was spot on the whole way through. I think those drums would fit a little better with a tad of reverb maybe just to make them sound a little more natural. Overall, excellent. Well done ido!
