confused with USB mic setup...

Hello, I'm a novice home recorder. I'm trying to set a Blue Yeti USB mic with my windows 7 machine. I plan to use Reaper with it, but right now I can't get it to record even in the "sound recorder" accessory. Doesn't work in Audacity either. I can hear myself fine when I plug headphones into it, but other than that, nothing. It's supposed to be just plug and play and I'm really puzzled. It shows up fine in the audio device manager, working and enabled, set for both recording and playback. When I tried recording in reaper I made sure all the hz and bits etc match up, but still nothing. Any ideas? Google yields naught.
 
Trying it on a macbook now with Garageband and the same result. I can get computer audio through the headphones plugged into the mic and I can hear myself speaking into the mic but I can't seem to get the computer to recognize the signal.
 
you have find preferences menu in your recording software and set the Mic as your input device.
