I'm completely new to Home PC recording, and I just purchased the Delta 1010 and Cakewalk Sonar.

My setup so far is simply my guitar going into a Line 6 POD into the Delta input to Sonar. I'm using headphones connected to my output on the delta 1010 for monitoring (for now).

My problem seems to be related to a latency issue. There is probably a second or so delay from me playing my guitar to Sonar receiving the sound. I've searched through the board and tried different things to get the output in realtime, but I simply came to the conclusion my soundcard cannot handle these conversions in realtime. I probably need a better soundcard, after all my computer is more than a week old and is considered a dinosaur.

I can deal with the delay if I have to, but the thing that is driving me batty is, how to insert tracks over my recordings with this delay.

For instance I record my guitar track, sounds great everything is fine. I then want to throw in a drum track, but with that second delay, my drum track is off from the guitar track. Now I know I can edit the tracks and rip my hair trying to get the timing right, but I am generally a lazy person and I feel after all the money I spent, I should not have to go through so much aggrevation, after all I'm a musician not a rocket scientist.

So basically in a nutshell, I'm looking for a good way of recording my music without having to deal with latency issues. I'm guessing theirs probably a better way I can monitor the output so I can at least hear everything realtime, I can care less if I record in realtime. As long as everything lines up I'm happy.

I'll echo nutdonet's comment in another thread: don't crosspost the same question in two or more forum categories, please.

If you are worried that it won't be noticed by everyone you want to notice it, try this: post the question in the most obvious category, and in the others, post something like "blah blah problem" and say "I've posted a question about blah blah in the Cakewalk forum; if you know anything about it please take a look."
