last night i was reading this book on garageband when i had an AH HA Moment....

is it possible to plug my mic into my pre-amp, and then....plug the pre-amp into the 1/8 jack (using a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter) on the MAC....so, i would be using the pre-amp as an interface....?!!!! Will this work? anyone?

what are the pluses and minues of recording....my above mentioned way...via the 1/8 inch jack...verses firewire....

latency, etc?

the analog to digital converters on your built in soundcard suck.

And your signal coming out will be mono, the 1/8" jack is stereo so it will come in on one side only

Technically you are not turning your preamp into an interface. The interface is your soundcard. But notbreadsohner is correct when he says "the analog to digital converters on your built in soundcard suck."

I've had fine results with the built in audio inputs on Apple products. Their AD converters are better than I ever thought they would be.

While the inputs are stereo, GarageBand allows you to record dual mono tracks from stereo inputs.
