Hi,
like most of the peole here(i guess) I record in the same room that i have my computer and hard drives. Sadly the G5 fans and the HD (La cie firewire) noise lick into the microphone!! I tried to record my voice trhu the neumann M147 tube with i low cut filter, a shockmounth and enclose headphone. I`ve also tried to apply, after i record, a noise gate(in Logic 7) but with poor result. The voice sound very unnatural and I still can hear some noise!!!
Since i have a big closet i was thinking to put the computer there, but i don`t know if this will solve the problem since the room isn`t very big and the closet door is not soundproof!!
Please, could you help me to find a solution or if there is any paritcular recording tecnique to avoid noise lick?

It worked for me. My AMD box was quite loud and putting it in the closet (had to run some extenstion cables for mouse etc) cut most of the noise when recording with a mic. I'm now using a Dell which is very quiet and usually don't even bother closing the closet door. I would monitor the temp in the closet if you leave it in there for longer periods but I've had no problem with the closet getting too hot.

I moved my G4 to the next room, sharing a common wall. It lowered the computer noise by about 90%, maybe more. I have 2 foam pieces I plce by the rear and left side, and throw a blanket over the whole thing when I record a track. That lowers the computer sound another 50% or so.

Just make sure you don't squelch your cooling fans - That's bad.

My computer is in an adjacent room -- small hole drilled at the bottom of the wall just big enough to get all the cables through, with socks (or whatever) stuffed in the hole to help insulate it.

Much easier to set up a vocal booth in the closet. Leave the clothes in there to absorb waves. My best vocal takes come from our laundry room, which has two clothes rails at a 90 degree angle to each other. Very flat, dead air.
