Choosing pedal, considering the most huge amount of patches out there. Digitech/Zoom?

I wouldnt go with zoom.
How much are you willing to spend?

why wouldnt you go with a zoom? i use a zoom GFX 8 and its great. what will you be using it for? live? recording? i run one of the outputs direct and one into my amp to be miced when i record and it sounds pretty good.

gitrguy87, its no good just saying "i wouldnt go with a zoom" without justifying your thought.

I have used Zoom pedals and I have used Digitech pedals.. I sold the Zoom.

See what I mean?

That being said, check this thread right here for the best deal around right now. If you buy one from the local music store it'll be $150 + tax. If you buy one on the internet it will still be $150 + shipping (because it doesn't cost enough to qualify as a "free shipping" item). Mine includes extras that you can't get with a new RP-200A anymore.... for a 3rd less in price! Yeah, I'm sort of spamming here, but it does pertain to the discussion. :):D:D

the patch library of RP100/RP200 is huge.

I've found most of my fav groups in the library, and it seems to be ok. I just want an effects processor with possibility to adapt settings from other pedals ( Zoom patches, for example ), cause sometimes i found patches from other groups for zoom pedals, and i can't even translate those settings to digitech pedals.

So i want something versatil wich can easily adapt to any preset that i could find on the net :)

The sounds (effects and amp simulations) on Digitech pedals are far better than anything you'll ever hear on a Zoom pedal. The Digitech pedals are less muddy on distortion tones and have more natural "tube-type" sounds on the cleaner amp types than a Zoom. The Zoom pedals don't even come close.

Seriously, if you like certain tones on the Zoom, you'll easily like the tones on the Digitech RP-200A much better. It's like comparing a Kia to a Corvette. Do a search anywhere you want. You'll find over and over again that 99% of people who know what they're talking about prefer Digitech effects over Zoom. It doesn't matter whether you want to buy my pedal or not, just don't nake the mistake of wasting your money on a Zoom pedal. You'll end up dumping it within a few months for a Digitech or Korg pedal... guaranteed!

Zoom pedals are pretty much entry-level (read: "cheap") pedals for kids who's parents are buying them their very first el cheapo Squire guitar and amp.

OK, I just ordered an RP-200A. If someone has something bad to say about the rp200, i don't want to know it. :D

Ummm, and you didn't want to buy mine?... which is new (with extras you can no longer get) for a third less?!?!???

Maybe you missed the link in my first response in this thread?

Here it is again if you missed it...

I'm just wondering why you wouldn't want to save $50 and get a free Digitech Custom Pedal Case and Digitech earbuds along with it!

There's still time to cancel your order and get a much better deal! :)

vintagetobes,
I ahd a GFX 3 and wasnt too happy with it. I thought the tone was pretty bad. But Ive never heard about the GFX-8. So I dont know anything about that. Its just that my expierience with Zoom wasnt that great.

fair play gitrguy87, its just comments like Buck 62's
"just don't nake the mistake of wasting your money on a Zoom pedal. You'll end up dumping it within a few months for a Digitech or Korg pedal... guaranteed!"

What is the point in making such rash statements like that? You GUARANTEE he will sell a zoom within a few months?
I didnt? Plus the one i have was sold out for a long period of time an was very hard to get.

I suggest you just try them out.

My experience with a korg was not great. Useles when a friend brought it round to record his band. Used the Zoom instead.

...They don't buy pedals like the GFX 8 for kids with squires. Not when the price of the pedal costs more than the guitar and amp together. Youcan't just tag Zoom with a comment like this.

I suggest you just try them all out at a store.

Been there, done that.... bought the Digitech.

I stand by my statement that Zoom's distortions seem muddy when compared with Korg, Boss and Digitech units. And for clean tones? Zoom doesn't even come close to the others.

i guess its just opinionated then. Still, dont say you GUARANTEE he will take it back....cus it not true.

Okay, you're right.

Let me re-phrase that statement...

"I guarantee you'll return the Zoom if your ears function properly." :D

(.... lighten up, I'm joking on this one!)

Buck 62:
Have you tried the model hes talking about? You cant make a comment like that unless you have tried the GFX 8 (or model the person is talking about).
It just makes your opinon worthless if you havnt tried it out.

Well, I've used lots of Digitech boxes (J-Station, Genesis, GNX, RP-100, RP-200), and I've used lots of Zoom boxes (all owned by friends, since i wouldn't lower myself to buying one), and I can honestly say that I have never heard a good sound out of a Zoom pedal. I'm not even talking about matter of preference, I'm just talking about plain old quality. The Digitechs could put out tones that I didn't really like, but they were still quality tones. In contrast, even patches from the Zoom that are more to my liking sounded like crap. Somehow Zoom has this gift of being able to take a great sound source and totally destroy it with bad processing.

Amen, brother!

Need I say more???

Zoom = Poop

Sorry, but the truth hurts. :)

I don't live in the US, i'm from Vzla. :D

Zoom vs Digitech

I happen to think the onboard effects on the Zoom digital recorders are exceptional. I have the MRS-802, I`ve had the 1266 and it too gave an individual artist quality and quanity as far as the effects were concerned. I use the Boss GT-8 live, which takes me hours to coordinate tones and volume levels, if the Zoom guitar effect pedals sound anything like the MRS onboard effects, I would and will probably be using Zoom.
As far as my Digitech experiences, personally I haven`t had anything long enough to truly grade. I know a few guitarist that use the GNX-4 (I hope I got the letters correct, It`s Digitech`s version of the Boss GT-6/8), and once they became comfortable with programming them, they were satisfied with them.

Take a look at the bold word...that one little word makes all the difference in the world. The Zoom guitar effects pedals sound nothing like the MRS onboard. The MRS has halfway decent effects, but then it also has more of an interface than most of the guitar pedals.
