Hey Matt,

I listened to both songs. Similar good points and weak points between the two so I'll combine my comments.

First off, where be the words??? Without lyrics, these sound like ska-style video game chase scenes. You said, emo in the description but I don't really hear that here.

On the mix, I liked the heavy guitars. You did a good job doubling for the thicker effect. The playing was also very good on the guitar/drums. Didn't hear much bass guit. The rest drowns it out if it's there at all.

As for drums, I'm hearing clipping on the first track (that girl song) and they sound distant overall. the kick sounds solid but the rack toms and even a little of the snare sound far away.

Overall, I'm not hearing a whole lot of problems but I'm also not hearing any real melodic or rhythmic (or lyrical, obviously) hooks. These tunes are good but you need more to catch a discerning listeners ear. Something that makes each tune unique, genuine and memorable. I didn't walk away humming either tune and, to me, that means it's time to refine the writing a little. The playing is great, though. you definitely have it in you. Just gotta flesh things out a bit.

Two cents dropped in the bucket.

Thanks for replying, these are the things I need to know.

I write lyrics to the songs, but I am a bad singer so I don't sing them. I practice singing in hopes of getting better but it doesn't seem like you'll be hearing any sweet vocals on these songs just yet. I may ask a friend of mine to sing on these tracks for me.

About the toms (and a little snare) sounding distant; I am forced to use my Oktava for hi hat and crash so toms are left out in the cold. Snare could sound a little distant from editing them in Cakewalk, I may have just left a section of the snare track out of mastering, "That Girl Song" was the first song I recorded so it turned out a little rough.

Anyways, thanks for the feedback :).
