i'm looking to get one of these preamps. anybody have any experience with any of these? are they any good?

1. ART Tube model 127 (and the one above it)
2. MAudio AudioBuddy dual mic preamp w/ phantom power and direct box (don't know what those two features mean)
3. Rolls CL151 GLC
4. DBX Mini-Pre single channel tube mic preamp

these are all under $100. i'm going to connect to an Audiophile 2496 soundcard and record vocals and accoustic guitar parts for our demo. if it's versatile enough, i'm going to even try and mic my amp instead of going direct for one of the songs. i'm using a shure 58 for all of these applications and hope it works fine.

The art makes a pretty good D.I. for bass and electric guitar, keys, etc. Basically a so-so mic pre, though.

The audio buddy is the best thing out there for $100 or less.

The dbx is probably comparable to the ART, and the Rolls is supposed to pretty much suck.

Isnt the rolls your pre of choice, Chess?

:D :D lol. I have a moded Bellari I'm waiting on . . . should be getting here in the next few weeks. Totally different beast, though. Especially with the mods. Should sound pretty good, though, I expect.

you can make STUPID mean guitars with that bellari I kid you not!

the audio buddy functions well as a DI for certain applications and is a reliable mic pre. i use it for my demos. i used it to track the chorus vocal loop, the vocals at the end, and acoustic guitar loop on "take it away," http://www.piemusic.com/sl/music.html
