Can't Get Preamp to work PLEASE HELP

I have recently purchased an ART Pro Channel II pre-amp in the aim of running it through my Alessis Multimix 8 USB 2.0. The Preamp seems to be working fine however when i plug the output from the preamp into the Alessis i get no signal whatsoever. I am running into the alessis using an XLR cable into the slot which says 'line in' i assume this is line level however this may be where i am slipping up. PLease can anyone help me out??? DESPERATE MAN HERE

does the multimix 8 present each input as a separate channel in your daw, or does it just provide a stereo sum?

I'd recommend using line input 5,6,7 or 8 because they're likely to be a more direct path than 1-4.
Either way you should be using an XLR to TRS cable.


If the alesis does discreet channels then you'd need to plug the preamp into line input 5 (for example), then choose input 5 in your recording software.

If it's a stereo summing interface, you'd plug into 5, but select left (or 1) as your software input as 1,3,5 and 7 will all be summed as left/1.

Also, you'd need to make sure that you have the gain turned up for the relevant line input on the Alesis.
