Can anybody help?

When i record on to my pc (I use pro tools) the recordings have a loud buzz over them so what i want to hear is almost completely drowned out.

I use a cheapish mic, a roland cub 20 amp which is plugged into my pc.

Plugged into your PC?

Desscribe your signal path in detail.....

sorry, new to this!! my mic or guitar is plugged into my amp which is plugged into my pc through were an ordinary pc mic is plugged in

sorry for mixup. im using pro tools le on my mac and cool edit pro 2.0 (free) on my pc. Both make the same buzz

Have you only tried recording an amp with your setup?
Have you tried recording acoustic guitar or even just singing to see if the buzz is stilll there?
If so and the buzzing is still tehre then it will be a dodgy cable or your mic.

ive tried various differnet amp settings, used different leads and programs even tried different guitars.

No difference

Bingo. The #1 problem of first time recordists.

You need to plug into your Line In on your soundcard, not the Mic In. If you're plugged into the Mic In jack, that's probably the source of most, if not all, of your problem.

Yeah, are you running the amplifier's output straight to the input of the computer? Or are you mic'ing the amp? If you are recording the amplifier using some output, a cable, and then into the computer, which output from the amplifier?

It looks like the Cube 20 has a headphone / line-out jack on it, so maybe that's it.

Good call on the mic input... I've had a Mac laptop for so long I always forget about the two different inputs on the damn desktops... for a second there I thought he might be running the speaker output to the PC... lol
