Hey everyone,

I'm currently trying to build a studio to record for a singer/songwriter duet.... we play coldplay/ dave mathews band type music. This is the equipment I have and I'm currently wondering what else I need.

Behringer Eurorack UB1222FX-PRO Mixer
Shure SM 58
Boss Digital Delay DD3
Boss Phase Shifter PH3
Alesis SR 16 Drum machine
A couple of guitars....which I wont' bother to name.

I plug this through my P4, 256 mb Ram into a Creatives Labs Pro soundcard...
I'm currently also using garage band to record.

I'm completely new to recording, so I would like to know what else I need. Any help is greatly appreciated

First of all, I would highly suggest a different soundcard.
The M-Audio delta cards are very inexpensive....and work very well.

well actually i have thought very long about it. I was considering to get a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum Pro but it's not really in my price range... even at $100.

What I was trying to say was......get away from Creative cards.
They aren't good for recording (as many others here will also tell you).
That would be my first upgrade, given the equipment that you have.

Yeah when upgrading soundcards try not to upgrade from a pile of shit to a piece of shit because eventhough its less shitty its still shit and shit's gross. If 100 bucks is all you have then just save up for a good soundcard.

Hey,

As you might know Ialso record using a creative SBLive Platinum card. I hear everybody say to stay away from them. Why aren't they good? High latency? Poor converters? Only two simultaneous channels? Can anyone tell me?

Stan.

Just out of curiosity, how are you running Garage Band on your P4?

I was gonna ask that too. I didn't wanna sound like a dumbass but I thought that was a osx only app.

And to the questions about the sblive platinum whatever. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. And you there's you're answer. I own the card and tried it for recording, sucks, I don't wanna get started.

Just fuck around and have fun until you have some real money to blow. Even then you're probably better off just going to a real studio.

(Real money means $10,000+)
