does anyone have suggestions for a home-made pop screen to use in front of a condenser mike?
thx

You can use a 6 inch fabric hoop, available at Wal Mart or any sewing shop (I paid 75 cents for one at Wal Mart), then stretch a piece cut from a pair of nylon panty hose over the inner hoop, and secure it with the outer hoop. This works great.

The real problem, though, is how to place it in front of the mic. I'm still trying to fabricate a permanent solution that doesn't cost as much as just buying one for $20 from any online shop.

Hope this helps.

You could clip one of those Clip-Type Mic Holders to your home made pop filter and put it on a stand in front of the mic.

thanks for the suggestions, I went out right away to Walmart and bought a couple of the fabric hoops. Luckily, I always liked playing Meccano so the kids have a good supply of parts :)

Enclosed are two photos of how I used simple Meccano parts to attach the screen with a heavy, spring-loaded paper clip to the microphone stand.

Now, all I need is a good condenser mike....
cheers

make a loop from a wire hanger, stretch panty hose over it, use electrical tape to attache to mic stand.

Better yet, buy one for $15.00

I am wrong, they are $19 at musicians friend.

There is also one on ebay at $9.95 right now:

is the panty hose better new or used?:D

Used is fine as long as it's not your sister's or your mom's. That would just be wrong. Used is especially good if your singing Jimmy Buffet songs. The smell of fish gives you the feeling your right there on the ocean.

Well, it's not going to hurt the mic, and if you like the sound... I guess it's not bad for you. I don't even like using a pop filter... unless I have too.

nah, i know it wont hurt the mic ( : heh... it just doesnt seem to effect the sound at all
