My guitar recording are lacking low end. Im using a marshall jcm800 head through a thd 2x12 speaker. With a sm57 and a senheiser 421 microphone.
Any suggestions

If you are dual-mic'ing your cabinet you could be getting some phase cancellation and its making everything sound 'thin'.
Theres people here who know better than for sure but I think theres a "3-1" rule for multiple mic setups. Whatever distance a mic is from the source (the speaker you're mic'ing in this case) that mic needs to be 3 times that distance from the other mic's position. So to place the sm57 and the 421 2" from the speaker then they would need to be 6" apart from each other to avoid phase cancellation. I might have worded it poorly but it works something like that if I'm correct.
So experiment spacing the mics further apart. The 2nd mic will catch more ambience of the of room that way as well.
Hope that helps, I only responded since no one else had.

What goodbyebluesky said may very well be true.

Do you like the sound you're getting out of the amp? If so, then fool around with mic placement a bit (usually, the further from the center of the cone, the more lows you get). Do this: unplug the guitar, power up the amp, and plug the other end of the guitar cable into the amp. Now touch the tip of the cable and put your ear right up next to the speaker and move around until you think the hum sounds "best". Put the 57 right there. Now play something and move the 421 around until it's in phase with the 57.

Hope this helps. I'm no good with mic'ing cabs with more than one mic, so I'm not so sure how to go about doing that.

A quick check for this is to turn off one of the mics and record a bit. If the low end jumps up, then that's your prob.
