Boss BR 1180 tips??

Hey guy's, is there anybody here using the boss br 1180 cd, if so I would like to know to do's and don't about this unit. Being new to the recording industry it would be nice to get a little push with this unit. Maybe some tips, also if possible please give me your input on the quality of it as well....

Take care
Jerry...

I can't comment on the quality issue, but Roland/Boss have a longer history of compact digital all-in-one recorders than anyone else, and despite data compression issues, they sound OK to me... I have a VS 840 EX. My big tip would be to visit www.vsplanet.com and check the forums there - it's dedicated to roland/boss "studios" and people there are helpful.

Apart from that:
- Make sure your levels are good'n'high but hot clipping
- External preamps can be helpful (the reputation of roland for pre's is not good, but I have no experience with your machine. I use a mackie 1402vlz mixer for pre's
- External compressors are also helpful in preventing clipping, maximising your use of available bits in the digital world and controlling sound.
- Search the forums here for answers on particular topics

br1180cd

I have a br 1180cd and have been using it since August of 2002. There is a great deal to learn and I am also a beginner at recording. I am trying to figure out how to get into the archives on this site to read any and all postings about the use of the br1180. I have been told by a friend that I need to record everything dry and add effects later. I am experimenting with that right now. Good luck to you. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Hey DreamWalker, go ahead and start a new thread with your question. We can't help unless we know your specific need.
As you have prob. noticed, catchy Asks get more hits and attract more resources... as in people.

hope I'm not out of line jumping in here. my br1180 cd burner doesn't work and I want to save some things stored. What must I do to copy the data to my pc and burn from there? Anyone? I don't have a manual

There's a section in these forums just for Boss/Roland users.

You can download the manual HERE.

Looks like your only options will be to record the audio out from the line-out jacks to an interface to a DAW (software recording) or direct to a CD burner or other recorder.
