Does anyone know what equipment Bob Rock specifically used during his career? or any techniques he used, specifically whilst working with the Payolas, Bon Jovi, The Cure, Lostprophets and Metallica

The Metallica stuff is pretty well documented. Just rent 'Year and a half in the life of...' and 'Some Kind of Monster' and just pay attention to the background.

There is also a Classic Albums DVD about the Black Album that goes into some of the production details, especially the bonus features stuff that you won't see on VH1 Classic.

Wait, Bob Rock was the producer, why would he use any equipment?

Even though there was an engineer, Bob Rock is the one that decides what mic goes to what preamp into which EQ, etc...

He designs the sounds of the instruments on the albums he works on.

Yeah. For the Metallica sessions, he brought out the Magical Bob Rock Suck-O-Meter, which is so powerful that, with a single twist of a knob, he can turn thrash metal poineers into whiney grunge rockers. Why?
