I have heard some people say it has too much noise/has problems with feedback?

Quality wise does it sound much better than an SM58?

It's the mic we use live, and it works amazingly well. I feel it sounds a ton better than a 58, in fact, we even used it on a few songs we recorded.

if anything, we've had less feedback problems with it cause it's hypercardoid.. just don't eq the highs up too much, cause it's a bit more crisp up there.
always nice to have another good mic.

coolness.

yeah...I think that is what Bono is using these days.

i was just thinking the feedback thing becuase it has a higher output? I guess you could always just turn it down though...heh.

Just remembered hearing that somewhere. Sweet looking mic though....I think i will snag one.

The Beta 58a is selling for around $160, but you may be better served by a Beta 57a instead. It's the same element as used in the 58a, but has a few advantages over the 58a. Number one, it's about $20 cheaper, and secondly, it's shape is more condusive to other applications. You can use it not only for vocals, but for close micing a drum or a guitar cabinet as well. I was able to get a great deal at 8th Street on the 57a. They were selling the mic with a tripod boom stand and cable for $139. I ordered it last week, and got it yesterday...but when I looked at their today, I don't see the extras included anymore. :( Maybe you could call them and see if they can still offer that same deal. *shrug*

how much do they cost?

Hey,

I see you're in C-ville...great town! My wife commutes there everyday for work. I'm in Midlothian.

Do yourself a favor before making an online or in-store purchase and check out Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center...Prices are amazing and shipping is next to nothing: Here's a link to their website: www.wmcworld.com. They don't give prices on their site, but they will email quotes to you relatively quickly. I do all my "window shopping" at the usual places--musician's friend, etc., and then when I'm ready to buy I inevitably end up at Chuck's. I actually drive up there about twice a year just to drool. They got everything or can get it for you cheaper than just about anyone else, tax free of course. I bought a Sure Beta 58a there about 2 years ago, and I remember it being at least $30 cheaper than the next lowest price i could find, and shipping was $5...I actually had them ship me 2x12 guitar amp about 10 years ago, and I distinctly remember that the shipping was only $5!!! (You might already know about Chuck's, but I thought I'd pass it along in case you didn't).

Cheers.
