This is about the best I've found for REAL high grade pre-made mic cables...

10 foot Canare (any color) for $17.95

www.8thstreet.com has the Blue cables for around $32, and then I mainly find the Monster cable everywhere and its like $100 for 15 feet, and most pros dont like it as much as the Canare Star Quad that is 1/4 the price. Go figure.

I ordered some purple mic cables from Markertek, and when I decide to order a few more, I'm going to get differet color pairs so I can co-ordinate where everything is in the mess I make when I try to record.

So what's the need for hi grade mic cables if you leave them in a mess on floor..... clean it up and keep the cabels apart that will give you better control than spending money on expensive cables...

Personally I would rather have a mess of quality cable on the floor than a neat routing of GC specials.

I agree with you M.B. maybe my comment wasn't the best way to put it.. aplogise for that.... The point was that a cable mess will be more exposed to huim pickup and induced signals...

Yep, I guess it would. They sure get messy fast, though. I hate cables and wires and wall warts and... all that shit... always wanted a wireless world. Maybe someday.

The Markertek IS Canare cable, I think they just terminate it themselves. And, its not that expensive, which was my pointand why I brought up the topic. For about $10 more, you have much better cable.
Take one of these cables and A/B it to a $7 25 foot GC cable and see what happens to your high end. Seriously. Done it, convinced.
I have a few purples, and more on the way.
James Brown always swore by the purple Canare... said it sounded better than the other colors. Heh. True story.

By the way, just hold it and work with it compared to cheapo cable. You can tell just by feeling it. Pretty rugged stuff.

I just got 3 new ones brought to the front porch while I was sitting here reading, and wince I had them right here I too ka look.. the Marker tek cables say Canare Cable on the sides, and then 105, and then L-4E6S.
The connectors are Neutrik and say NC*MX on them.
Pretty cool catalog came with them today that I didnt have yet.

Ordered a Mogami Gold Studio cable from Full Compass today, too. Will compare them to Canare when it shows up.
I also got a Rolls HA43 headphone amp for like $42, thier everyday price. Very nice price.

I ordered 15' of the QuadStar blue mic cable and two Nuetrik black gold pin M&F XLR ends for a whopping total of about $11.

And some other junk.

It really does pay to make your own cables.

Hey Tube: I just ordered a bunch of interconnect cables from Markertek. I assume that all their cables (1/4 to RCA, etc.) are Canare, no? Anyway, even if they aren't they look like a cut above the rest of the crap....

Full Compass has a full array of Mogami cables, and I just got a 25 foot Mogami mic cable from them for $28. Gold contacts, very nice.

You may not hear a huge difference initially - but after the cables have 'aged' for a few years, the cheaper ones will have more oxidation, and the difference will become dramatic. That's why good quality cable is even more important in "permanent" installations.

Oh, and if you dont have noise and RF problems, avoid the quad cables. get the mid line BLUE or a MOgami Neglex thats not quad. You'll hear the difference, most likely.

If it's a "house brand" then it's probably just re-labeled generic cable. If you can get 'em cheap you might want to stock up for your live rig. Use the cheap stuff for gigs and keep the good stuff safe at home. That way you don't have to worry about your good cables getting thrashed from gig use.
