That oh-so-desireable "click" sound is actually around 3800Hz or so.

The reason most rock albums get a good clicky kick sound is because they boost this frequency tons :)
Seriously, even with a D112, don't be afraid to add up to 7db of 3000-4000Hz range. It's pretty much essential to get it cutting through the mix.
Or you could try the washer trick, which could do a similar thing and you avoid EQ. I've never tried it myself though so I don't know for sure exactly how it sounds.
